In the RC world, Rock Crawling is a discipline where low geared RC cars called Crawlers (or Rock Crawlers) drive and climb over the most difficult outdoor terrain.

Overview of crawling[edit | edit source]

Crawling is a specific category of off-road RC sport that has a widespread popularity amongst RC fans. It is one of the most social RC disciplines and as such attracts RC drivers of all ages from beginners to experienced racers. It is a fun activity that can be enjoyed amongst entire families that can go crawling together trying to climb hills and rocks without flipping over.

Crawlers are a type of off-road RC car mostly four-wheel drive cars and engineered with a high center of gravity and a large amount of torque specifically to drive through rugged terrain at slow speeds but with the utmost efficiency.

Crawlers can include:

  • multi-link suspensions.
  • oil-filled shocks
  • rugged drivetrains
  • high and low gear transmissions

Some crawlers are capable of fast speed but most are not designed with racing in mind. Rather crawlers are designed for mechanical and scale realism with crawler sizes ranging from 1/6th scale to 1/32th scale.
